The aviation industry has experienced tremendous growth over the last two years. This has in turn created a greater need to monitor the airspace around and between airports. And as air traffic density continues to increase, highly reliable components are becoming crucial for efficiently managing it.
SPINNER's hybrid rotary joints are renowned for their exceptional mechanical precision and outstanding signal transmission attributes. They play essential roles in radar systems in which signals are conveyed between a stationary platform and a continuously rotating antenna.
SPINNER has now developed a special maintenance approach for rotary joints that use slip rings. It eliminates the need to remove the entire coupling for servicing or replacement. Instead, the data transmission unit is designed so that it is quick and easy to remove in just a few simple steps: a "plug-and-play" slip ring system.
SPINNER ATC Plug-and-Play Slip Ring
These plug-and-play slip rings have revolutionized rotary joints, delivering a number of advantages over conventional models. In addition to being designed for easy installation, use, and maintenance, they save time and costs. This makes them ideal for a wide range of applications.
SPINNER also supplies modules for ATC rotary joints with coaxial connections for transmitting signals in the L-band and S-band frequency ranges. These important components deliver benefits for transmitting transponder data of private and commercial aircraft, among other applications. They are stackable and freely configurable and feature an aperture in the middle to facilitate installation, also in customer-specific rotary joints.
SPINNER ATC L-Band Modules
Customers can flexibly choose from three differently sized SPINNER L-Band modules for various frequencies. These can be used individually or stacked in groups of two or three.
The modules comply with strict standards of quality and reliability. Their design makes them particularly robust, durable, and resistant to environmental factors, enabling them to lastingly and reliably meet the demanding data transmission requirements of the aviation industry.

Uses for SPINNER ATC Rotary Joints
SPINNER hybrid rotary joints are integrated in air traffic control (ATC) systems including surface movement radar (SMR), precision approach radar (PAR), air surveillance radar (ASR), en-route radar, and Doppler weather radar (DWR).
Hybrid SPINNER ATC Rotary Joint
The various rotary joint versions feature compact designs, low transmission fluctuations, high crosstalk attenuation between channels across the frequency range, precisely machined waveguides for primary radar signals, and proven L-band coaxial channels for secondary radar. They are designed for long-term, maintenance-free service, also under harsh environmental conditions, and nonstop operation at full load. They enable radar systems to achieve their full detection range without any downsides.
