Large Core Fiber Optic Rotary Joints
For special applications, SPINNER supplies fiber optic rotary joints with large core fibers (LCFs) or plastic optical fibers (POFs). These enable genuinely bidirectional transmission across the rotary interface.
Their extremely low torque and robust housings make them ideally suited for a wide spectrum of applications in fields ranging from the life sciences and medical technology all the way to machine tools and construction vehicles. Many medical applications in particular – examples include Raman spectroscopy and fluorescent imaging – require mixed rotary couplings with a laser channel for stimulation and a large-core channel for the backscatter signal.
Technical Properties
The LCF and POF rotary joints deliver optimal optical performance from blue across green to red wavelengths, thus in the range from about 400 to 800 nanometers. They are therefore also ideal for photometry. At the same time, the individual channels are exceptionally well isolated from one another. Each channel can be used in either or both directions, thus enabling directional multiplexing.
Depending on the fibers’ core diameters, up to four channels can be integrated in a single rotary joint. We naturally also offer various single-channel solutions. The outputs are terminated with FSMA or FC connectors, and the cable lengths can be adjusted to meet customer specifications.
Benefits of the SPINNER LCF and POF Rotary Joints
No maintenance required
No degradation, since the coupling contains air instead of oil
2 to 4 channels
High rotational speeds of at least 12,000 rpm, on request even faster
Robust housings able to withstand high mechanical stresses
We’re happy to configure customized solutions on request, also in small quantities. Please don’t hesitate to contact us by email rs@spinner-group.com or phone +49 89 12601-1430.
