SPINNER Completes FAT for R14/WR650 Waveguide Systems for ALBA Synchrotron in Barcelona
SPINNER has successfully completed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for four complete R14/WR650 waveguide runs destined for the ALBA Synchrotron near Barcelona. The systems will supply RF to the third-harmonic cavities operating at 1.5 GHz, supporting a major upgrade of the facility.
The ALBA upgrade introduces third-harmonic cavities designed to significantly enhance beam performance. By improving the stability of the synchrotron light beam and extending the lifetime of the electron beam, the system reduces electron losses during high-current accelerator operation. The supplied waveguide systems will be installed in the storage ring, linking RF amplifiers to the cavities and ensuring reliable high-power transmission.
SPINNER’s scope of supply includes complete waveguide assemblies with circulators, ferrite loads, shutters, flexible sections, and all associated components. Furthermore, the company provides BTESA, manufacturer of the RF sources, combining systems consisting of hybrid couplers and ferrite loads.
This project marks a key milestone in SPINNER’s growing waveguide portfolio for particle accelerators. It is one of reference projects currently underway. As these projects progress, SPINNER will continue to expand its offering across commonly used frequencies and waveguide sizes, further strengthening its position as a comprehensive RF solutions provider.
